Meet the team
Glasgow is the home of my swim journey. It was where I was taught the art of swimming, and it was where I developed to a professional level before I left to travel the world. Even after I left my hometown to compete on a more global level, I always felt the amazing support from the people of Glasgow, and so I feel very grateful to be launching our own Swim Academy in the city where it all began for me.
Alongside my amazing team, I now have the opportunity to share everything I’ve learned along the way to Olympic success, and give back to the young swimmers and athletes of Glasgow and beyond.
Everyone at MJ Swim Academy is extremely passionate about providing a learning environment that develops curious, self-aware, responsible young people through the sport of swimming.
I’ve worked in the swim industry for almost 20 years and I love it more every day! One of my biggest passions is making a positive impact upon standards within the Learn to Swim framework, and ensuring that every swimmer’s journey is the best it can be.
I’ve taught at every level over the past 18 years as a fully qualified swim instructor, gaining my professional qualifications across both national and international governing bodies of sport.
My teaching experience spans the public and private sectors, tutoring everyone from babies and preschool swimmers to coaching triathletes in open water, and developing their skills for their first Ironman event. Regardless of age or ability, the basic principles are the same, and I strive to provide the highest quality swimmer-led experience that promotes self-discovery and awareness.
I’ve designed multiple swim programs across the UK and have also mentored future swim instructors and program managers. I mentor all members of the teaching staff at MJSA to ensure that our teaching methods are current, consistent, and innovative, providing you and your child with the best experience in the pool!
My main goal at the academy is to see all our swimmers reach their full potential, whether it’s their first time in the pool or a triathlete training to compete in open water. You’ll see this translated throughout everything we do at MJSA.
I started swimming at 8 years old and fell in love with the water instantly. Only two years later, I started swimming competitively at Scottish and British National competitions.
I had the opportunity to swim with the City of Glasgow Swim Team and the Stirling Swim Team during my time at uni where I also did my bachelor’s in Sport and Exercise Science and my master’s in Human Performance and Physiology.
I have nearly a decade of teaching experience and believe that everyone should have the opportunity to learn swimming for the enjoyable life skill that it is. I love taking all the knowledge and experience to deliver fun, informative swimming lessons to my students.
